Week Nine, Day One
Starting the week in Genesis with our focus on God as our Refuge. And in these Holy chapters we see God as Jacob's refuge. Jacob goes back to the land of Israel with fear that his brother Essau will retaliate. Before he reaches his brother's home, Jacob wrestles with God. He cries out asking for deliverance for his family, and God leads Jacob and Essau together. In a moment of reconcilation the brothers embrace and cry and make ammends. God has delivered on His promise to Jacob to take him back to his homeland. And Jacob leads his family to worship God. In what other ways in these chapters do you see God providing refuge for Jacob and his family? Here is a Biblical definition of the word refuge: a place or person offering safety, protection, and shelter from danger, trouble, or pursuit, with God frequently depicted as the ultimate refuge—a fortress and shelter for His people in times of distress, sin, or fear, offering spiritual protection and hope.
